Printable Memory Training Sheets
Print a championship-layout sheet to memorize and its recall sheet, for training on paper the way the World Memory Championships are run. Every sheet has a code: the same link prints the same sheet, so you can print the answer key when you're done.
Preparing a sheet…
The championship sheet: 1,000 digits, memorize 5 min, recall 15 min. Train it on screen in Speed Numbers.
Training on paper, the way championships are run
At the World Memory Championships most events are still done on paper: a printed sheet to memorize, then a separate recall sheet to write on, marked by an arbiter. Training the same way gets you used to reading a full printed page, keeping your place without a cursor and writing fast and legibly against the clock.
These sheets follow the championship layout: digits in rows of 40, 25 rows to a page; binary in rows of 30; words in five columns of 20; dates 40 to a page, with the recall sheet in a different order. The card sheet is for a real shuffled deck: memorize it, then write the order down.
- Choose an event and a size. One page is a full Speed Numbers sheet; larger sizes are for the longer events and for going further.
- Print the sheet and the recall sheet, or choose Save as PDF in the print dialog to keep a copy.
- Set a timer and memorize. Turn the sheet face down when the time is up.
- Recall on the recall sheet, then mark it with the scoring rule printed at the top.
- To check your answers, open the sheet's link again (it's printed at the foot of every page) and print the answer key.
Frequently asked questions
- Are these the official championship sheets?
- No. They follow the layout and scoring the World Memory Sports Council rulebook describes, but the content is generated here. A championship's own sheets are only seen on the day.
- Why does every sheet have a code?
- The code, the event and the size decide everything on the sheet, so the same link always prints the same sheet. That is how you get the answer key after you have recalled, without seeing it before.
- How do I mark a recall sheet?
- The rule is printed on the recall sheet. For numbers, a row with no mistakes scores its length, a row with one mistake or gap scores half, and two or more score nothing. The row scoring calculator adds the rows up for you.
- How long should I memorize for?
- Whatever you are training for. The championship clocks are shown above for each event; for practice, a shorter time and part of the sheet works just as well. Write the times on the sheet so your results stay comparable.
- Can I print on US Letter paper?
- Yes. Each page is drawn to fit inside the print margins of both A4 and US Letter.
Mark a numbers sheet with the row scoring calculator, then try the same event on screen in Speed Numbers, where the scoring is done for you.
