Memory Row Scoring Calculator

Score a recall sheet the way the World Memory Sports Council does: full rows, rows with one mistake, and the last partial row. Works for Speed Numbers, Hour Numbers, Binary and Hour Cards.

Perfect rows
400 pts
One-mistake rows
40 pts
Last partial row
0 pts
Total score
440

Worth 668 championship points against the Millennium Standard for Speed Numbers.

Rules applied: a complete row with no mistakes scores 40; with one mistake (a missing item counts) it scores 20; with two or more it scores 0. Rows you did not attempt cost nothing. On your last, incomplete row, all correct scores the items recalled, and one mistake scores half, rounded up. Hour Numbers scoring follows the Speed Numbers rules, which the published rulebook PDF does not spell out for that event, so treat it as an inference.

How row scoring works in memory sport

In the number events, a recall sheet is marked row by row. A complete row recalled with no mistakes scores the number of items in the row: 40 in Speed Numbers and Hour Numbers, 30 in Binary Numbers, and 52 for a card pack in Hour Cards. A row with exactly one mistake scores half, and a row with two or more scores nothing.

Rows you never reached score zero but cost nothing, so the only penalty for ambition is a messy row. On your last, incomplete row, the points equal the items recalled if all are correct, or half of them, rounded up, with one mistake.

  1. Choose the event so the calculator uses the right row length.
  2. Count the rows you recalled with no mistakes, and the rows with exactly one mistake. A missing item counts as a mistake.
  3. If your last row was incomplete, enter how many items you recalled in it and whether it had one mistake.
  4. Read the total and the championship points it is worth against the Millennium Standard.

Frequently asked questions

How is a Speed Numbers sheet scored?
Each complete row of 40 digits recalled correctly scores 40 points. A complete row with one mistake scores 20, and two or more mistakes score 0. There is no penalty for rows you did not attempt.
Does a missing digit count as a mistake?
Yes. A gap in a row counts as a mistake, so a row with one gap scores half and a row with two gaps scores nothing.
How is the last, incomplete row scored?
If every digit you wrote is correct, you score the number of digits recalled. With a single mistake you score half of them, rounded up (29 digits with one mistake scores 15). With two or more mistakes the row scores 0.
Why is accuracy worth more than speed?
Because one mistake halves a row and two wipe it out, a careful half-sheet can outscore a rushed full one. Training for clean rows usually pays more than adding rows.
Is Hour Cards scored the same way?
It follows the same pattern with a 52-card pack as each row: 52 points for a perfect pack, 26 with one mistake, 0 with two or more. Two cards swapped count as two errors.
Is this an official result?
No. It applies the published scoring rules to the counts you enter. Official marking is done by the arbiters at a competition.
